Quilts for Lunch Block Picnics with Kriss
          Small Group Classes/Workshops: "Block Picnics"

Southeast Nebraska and surrounding areas

NQA Teaching Certification required me to demonstrate all kinds of quilting skills, from
machine work to handwork, from drafting skills to design settings. Now I'm excited to
share quilting passion with you through some
easy classes called "Picnics" which can
be arranged for small groups.

All quilt-lovers are welcome to contact me! I'll be happy to place you in a group. Once 4
or more are signed up for a class, we convene at home:
my home or yours! We just need
table space and adequate lighting. (Hostesses get reduced class rates.)

Block Picnics with Kriss
2010: Handwork Emphasis                                                                               kriss.moulds@ymail.com
Picnic A: Hand-Pieced Block ($20 per participant)
Ever wonder how our great-grandmothers did it? Rediscover the joys of piecing by hand. It's a skill that
also comes in handy for piecing challenging blocks, antique blocks, curved blocks, and fussy-cut blocks
and borders. Class includes how to analyze a block and how to make practical templates. Kits with
handouts and templates included.

Picnic B: Hand Quilting Review ($15)
From layering, basting, and marking to quilting in a hoop, we'll work on a wall-hanging sized "sandwich."
No seams to push through, just delightful hand-quilting practice and technique tips. Class features an
overview of quilting changes over the years, and of today's quilting design options. It's a fun time to
experiment with needles, threads, and thimbles, too, as well as get ideas for easy hand-quilted projects.

Picnic C: Hand Applique Project ($20)
We'll begin a hand appliqued project that features all the basics of needleturn techniques, such as
curves, points, circles, and bias stems. We discuss various methods and review appropriate tools and
threads. We learn ways to transfer a design to the background. It's all here! It's the beginning of a beautiful
project that will eliminate the mystery of applique for you. A great review of needleturn basics. Kits provided.

Picnic D: Block Drafting / Making Templates ($15)
Learn how to "deconstruct" a block into its components, plus how to make a block into any size. There's
discussion of block "families" and the basics of block design. We can create actual templates for your own
use, as well as review rotary cutting measurements & technique. Great for design buffs, reproduction
enthusiasts, or any kind of quilter. (Optional session: Drafting a Star Block. $10 more.)

Picnic E: Crazy Quilt Block ($15)
Work with scraps while piecing fabrics onto a muslin foundation. Lots of laughs and fabric trading
encouraged. Includes a review of embroidery stitches. Great for a group of friends who need a day off.
(Optional session: Paper-pieced crazy quilting by machine. $10 additional.)

Picnic F: Block Construction ($20) (Okay, we can't ignore machine work completely...)
We start from the very beginning. A nice class for reviewing quilters and beginner friends. We examine
rotary cutting techniques, machine preparation, and quilting tools, plus we'll start on a pretty pieced block
while we discuss project variations. Kits provided.
